Shoelaces

Tying shoelaces and other micro bothers I keep putting off.

I’m attempting to be more deliberate in my actions.

Currently, this has manifested in trying to stop tying my shoes every ~15 minutes—the unfortunate reality of using the standard knot [1]. I’ve switched over to the surgeon knot instead; the first steps are exactly the same, so it is easier to transition to. So far, it has survived hours of walking, running, and some modest hiking without coming undone.

Reading

In theory, the subway is a great place to read: the spotty signal underground makes idle browsing less appealing. Nonetheless, I have a hard time reading there. I like to blame this on how bulky the current books I’m reading are, but this is easily solved with ebooks. Since switching to digital, I have been making slightly more progress (a chapter or two a day), but my consistency is still as flaky as the signal.

Conversations

I’ve switched to talking about now in response to “How are you / How’s it going?” instead of the default “Good / Alright”. It turns out writing what you’ve been up to recently makes recalling it verbally a little easier.

Mornings

Exercise in the morning does make the rest of the day feel clearer.
